Barrington police cruisers targeted by vandal

Barrington police are looking for any information that could lead to the arrest of the individual who tried to damage police cruisers recently.

On Friday morning, July 24, a Barrington police officer was about to pull his cruiser into a routine traffic patrol location on the side of the Wampanoag Trail when he noticed something shining on the ground.

He took a closer look and discovered hundreds of nails poured onto the ground — specifically into the worn tire tracks left by police cruisers as they monitor south-bound traffic on the trail.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the nails were left by someone intending to damage the vehicles: "It appears someone did this intentionally. If we catch them, they will be charged with vandalism," he said.

Police are asking people with any information about this incident to call the confidential tip line at 437-3933.
