Barrington Police: Fishermen fight over crab trap
What's the law on nighttime crab-trapping?
On Thursday, Aug. 24, Barrington Police received a call about two fishermen arguing.
Police said a 45-year-old Barrington man was upset because a Riverside man had taken his crab trap and drove off in his boat with it.
Police spoke with both men — the 62-year-old Riverside man said that it was illegal to have a crab trap in the water after dark.
Police took possession of the crab trap and later returned it to the Barrington resident.
According to RI DEM saltwater fishing regulations, the harvesting of blue crabs is prohibited between sunset and sunrise.
