During a three-day span last week, the Barrington Police twice engaged in high speed pursuits. 

On Thursday, Dec. 29, police spotted a car speeding through town at about 1:30 a.m. Officers were able to locate the vehicle — its speed was estimated at 90 miles per hour — and ordered it over to the side of the road. The driver, a 21-year-old Connecticut man, passed a series of field sobriety tests, police said. Officers later issued him summonses for motor vehicle violations.

On Saturday, Dec. 31, police clocked a vehicle traveling 85 miles per hour on the Wampanoag Trail at about 10:30 p.m. Officers began pursuing the vehicle, which would not stop when ordered to do so. Police called off the chase because it was too risky. Police later tracked down the motorist — it was an East Providence resident. Officers responded to the resident’s home and later charged Emily A. Burns, 28, of East Providence, with eluding law enforcement, vehicle in a high speed pursuit-first offense.
