Barrington Police: Stolen SUV found with full tank of gas
Car stolen in Barrington turns up in Riverside
Barrington residents woke up on Wednesday, July 5 to discover their Volkswagen SUV missing.
Barrington Police said a Grassy Plain Road resident called 911 at 6:36 a.m. on July 5 and reported her vehicle had been stolen. The resident told police that the keys to the vehicle, a wallet and other belongings had been left inside the SUV the previous night.
While police officers were responding to Grassy Plain Road, the resident’s husband, using GPS and an Air tag, located the stolen SUV parked outside the Riverside Shaw’s Supermarket.
Officers then responded to the shopping plaza.
Police said whoever stole the vehicle used a credit card from the wallet that had been left inside the SUV to fill up the gas tank. Police said the license plate had been taken off and left inside the vehicle. The keys were left inside the vehicle, but the wallet was missing. A child’s car seat was also missing.
Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said detectives processed the vehicle for fingerprints.
Police are still investigating.
