The Eagles traveled to Dighton Rehoboth on Sunday and returned to town with two key wins, as the Junior Midgets and Pee Wees celebrated victories.

Junior Midgets

Barrington Pop Warner’s Junior Midget football team sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods played the Dighton-Rehoboth Falcons on Sunday and came home with a 24-23 win.

Barrington started the game down five players, which forced a number of other players to fill in at multiple positions. "Every kid on the team dug deep inside to finish out this game without any let up," wrote coach Lee Carpenter. "We had multiple kids get dinged up during the game and they continued to compete and help pull out this victory."

Mark Bernardo Jr, Michael Cox, Zach Cunha, Sergio DaSilva, Luke Gorham, Marley Karnes, Aiden Keenan, Jack Kelleher, Harry Masse, Jack Murphy, Cam Oliveira, AJ Prete, Thomas Rocha, Robbie Sheahan, Justin Teles, Spencer Thys, Evan Van Bree, Chase White, Wolfgang Chojnicki, Willem Chojnicki and Declan Cooke each played key roles in the victory.

In the end Barrington won the game in overtime with a score of 24-23.

Pee Wees

The Bagels Etc sponsored Pee Wee football team won a hard fought victory over the Dighton-Rehobeth Falcons 20-6 in a match up of two 6-1 teams.

The Eagles received the opening kick off but were stopped on the first drive. DR powered their way down field on the opening play, but Dave Raposa made a touchdown-saving tackle. Three plays later the Falcons took the lead at 6-0.

When the Eagles got the ball back Briggs Dunphy carried for an eight yard gain, then broke one for 50 yards down to the DR 8 yard line. Three plays later Scotty Gausland ran one in on a counter play (Gorman pass to Sanchez) to make the score 7-6 Barrington. Great blocks came from Matt Daft and Mike Uriati on the play.

The next defensive stand was led by Conner Rowley, Will Arnone and Dante Salvaggio. Jack Kelty and Thomas McAdams made a few of several great tackles they had on the day to stop the DR drive.

Barrington started the next drive from their three yard line and was forced to punt again. With a short field Conner Nelson, George Alexandre and Puck Arnone held the Dighton-Rehobeth offense with solid tackles. After a couple of Gausland good runs Dunphy had a 50-yard touchdown catch called back on a holding call. The Eagles then turned the ball over while driving for a score.

Drake Van Ness and Bennett Durkin shut down the Falcons on a forth and two to give the ball back to the away team just before half. With 20 seconds left before half Jax Gorman hit Willie Sanchez for a 25-yard completion. On the next play Gorman threw a strike to Jay Schieffelin up the seam for 20 yards to score as time ran out of the first half (Gorman pass to Sanchez) to make the score 14-6.

The Eagles Black Defense, which has only given up 30 points in eight games, shut down DR once again with Alexandre recovering a fumble. Barrington moved the ball on the next possession, with runs from Bryan Ivatts, Sanchez and Gausland, but was forced to punt.

Once again the linebacker trio of William Loew, Ethan Tomulonis and Andrew Jameison shut down the Falcons with hard sticks that they had all day. Gausland ran for a couple solid gains on the next drive. Gorman hit Sanchez on a 15-yard pass down to the three yard line on fourth and four. Gausland powered it in for his second touchdown  to cap the scoring at 20-6 in the fourth quarter.

Great tackles from Durkin, Tomulonis, Jameison, Loew, Sanchez, Daft and Kelty held the final push from a huge Falcons team.

Mighty Mites

Barrington squared off against a tough Dighton Rehoboth team that had lost just one game heading into the matchup.

Making the challenge even greater for the Eagles was the fact that Barrington was without six of its starters. With just 14 total players, including many first-year players, Barrington showed impressive determination. After allowing an early touchdown, the Eagles buckled down and played impressive defensive against the Falcons. Kevin Robinson, AJ DiOrio, Quinn Murphy and Kurt Donnecker made key tackles, while Luciano Cicione and Jake Ignall also frustrated the DR offense.

Trailing 16-0 at the half, Barrington's offense finally jumped into gear as quarterback Mitchell Ivatts broke through a tough Falcon defense and raced 80 yards for a touchdown. Ivatts then tossed a beautiful pass to Murphy in the end zone for the extra point conversion.

Barrington's sideline came to life as they Eagles trailed just 16-7 heading into the fourth quarter. But despite a valiant effort, the Falcons proved too much and scored twice late in the game to seal the 30-7 victory.

The Barrington coaches commended the efforts of all the players who stepped up and played hard all game — Luke Deschenes, Jack Josephson, Blake Dolan, Aidan Riccitelli, Hunter Hughes, Quinn Murphy, AJ DiOrio, Kevin Robinson, Mitchell Ivatts, Kurt Donnecker, Aimon Bickford, Johnny Raposa, Jacob Raposa, Luciano Cicione, Jake Ignall and Madison Rodriguez.

The Eagles play at Portsmouth on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Junior Pee Wees

The Pearson Travel Junior Pee Wee Eagles traveled to Dighton-Rehoboth on Sunday taking on the undefeated, first place Falcons. The contest was a one-sided affair in which the Falcons ultimately cruised to a 38-0 victory.

Despite the lopsided score, the Eagles did have a few bright spots during the game highlighted by a 50-yard run from Joe Medeiros behind blocks from Ryan Anderson, Evan Waite, and Nathan Cobery which put the Eagles on the 8 yard line but were unable to capitalize.

The Eagles spent much of the afternoon on defense and were led with strong play from Devin Medeiros, Adam Camille, Brady Fisher, and Aidan Pine.

The Eagles will look to get back on track this Sunday when they will take on the Fairhaven BlueDevils.
