The Barrington High School boys' cross country team, racing as the Barrington Eagles Track Club, recently traveled to Wappinger Falls, NY, to compete in the Nike Cross Regional Championships — an event pitting some of the best high school runners from all over New England, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Barrington's Mars Bishop was the top local finisher, crossing the tape in 48th place with a time of 16:59. Will Connelly was the second Barrington runner to finish the race, placing 109th with a time of 17:26. Grant Auber was 141st overall with a time of 17:44 and his teammate Hayden Ivatts was just five places back, crossing the tape with a time of 17:45. George Wicker finished 181st with a time of 18:01, Eli Mitnick was 191st with a time of 18:06, and Dominic Portelli was 230th with a time of 18:46.
"Congrats to Mars, Will, Grant, Hayden, Eli, Dominic, and George, and all the members of the team for a great season," wrote coach Mike Katz in a recent email.
"Two weeks ago, the varsity team traveled to Thetford, Vermont to compete in the New England Championship. Out of 30 teams we finished in 11th place, the Barrington boy's best finish in many years. We beat all the Maine schools, and all the Vermont schools except one on their home course!"
