Barrington High School junior Yiran "Linda" Jia was recently awarded a National Scholastic Art Competition Silver Key for her mixed media piece titled "Suffering Meal." 

Linda created this piece as part of her Advanced Placement 2D Studio Art portfolio at Barrington High School. Doreen Lindenberg is Linda's AP art teacher. In January, Linda was awarded a gold key in the statewide Scholastic art competition at Salve Regina University in Newport. 

With that award, her piece went on to be judged nationally. Now, with her national win, she is part of a very select crowd, as Barrington High School has had only a handful — approximately six — national winners in the last 30 years. 

Arts Night poster

Barrington High School senior Anders Brandvik recently created the poster announcing Arts Night at the school. The event is set for Thursday night, May 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, but organizers are asking people to donate a jar or peanut butter. All food donations will be given to Tap-In. 

The classrooms will be turned into galleries for Arts Night. Drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, graphic design, photography, AP Art History, AP Studio Art, sculpture, woodworking, architecture, CADD and pre-engineering pieces will be displayed.

Also, art club students will be transforming the walls of the school into tape art murals. 

Refreshments will be served.
