HMS community donates more than 1,000 cans of soup to Tap-In

The Hampden Meadows School Student Council recently hosted the school’s first ever SOUPerbowl.

The event, which coincided with the NFL Super Bowl, featured students collecting cans of soup for the Tap-In food pantry.

Each class represented an NFL team throughout the HMS SOUPerbowl. There was an NFL draft day, where classes picked which team they were representing. Student Council members decorated collection boxes with their team’s logos, and students filled those boxes with donated food items.

During the HMS SOUPerbowl, the Hampden Meadows School community collected more than 1,000 cans of soup — 1,019 cans to be specific.

“It came out to 1,782 pounds,” stated a press release.

On Thursday, Feb. 15, the Hampden Meadows School Student Council went to Tap-In and dropped off the soup donations. Students had the opportunity to shelf and sort soup, weigh soup cans, and check expiration dates. They also received a tour of the Tap-In Food Pantry to better understand how the pantry operates and serves the East Bay Community.

“I am so proud of my Student Council members and all they did to help at Tap In,” said Jillian O'Neil, a Physical Education and Health Teacher at HMS, as well as the Student Council advisor. “We made such an impact on the community!"
