Jane Freiman's Toast Crumbs was selected as winner of Write Rhode Island

Barrington's Jane Freiman will read an excerpt of her award-winning story, Toast Crumbs, at this year's Providence Fringe Festival.

Earlier this year, Jane's story was selected as a winner of Write Rhode Island, a competition for students in grades 7 through 12. Toast Crumbs was awarded a Notable Mention.

At the Providence Fringe Festival on Saturday, Aug. 4, Jane and other award-winners will present their short stories. Jane is scheduled to read an excerpt from her story.

The Providence Fringe Festival will host outdoor performances, games, music, and storytelling — all of the Family Fringe events are free and take place at Waterfire Arts Center.

Write Rhode Island is a short fiction writing competition for Rhode Island students co-presented by School One and Goat Hill. The goal of Write Rhode Island is to promote and celebrate the works of students by incorporating Rhode Island as a theme in a creative piece of prose.

This year, Write Rhode Island received more than 150 submissions. Judges selected 20 students from across the state, the top three winners received a cash prize and all were honored in March at a celebration at the Newport Art Museum.
