A 14-year-old Barrington boy is facing an arson charge after an incident last week.

Barrington police say the boy and his friend lit a brush fire in the wooded area behind the Barrington Shaw's Supermarket on Tuesday, April 24.

After police responded to a call for the fire, they tracked down the teenage suspect in the nearby Barrington Shopping Center. The boy allegedly told police he and his friend were lighting some leaves on fire when the blaze grew larger. The fire department later extinguished the brush fire.

Police asked the boy for the name of his friend, but he would not share that information with officers. Police then charged the boy with arson-sixth degree. Police said his case will be referred to the town's juvenile hearing board.
