Barrington teen wins event at Chicagoland meet

Barrington's Adam Kelly had a personal best throw in the 12-pound hammer event while competing at the Chicagoland Throw Series at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., recently.

Kelly's second throw measured 243 feet, 1 inch and earned him the top spot in the men's hammer throw division. He finished the meet with four throws of more than 240 feet.

Fellow Barrington athlete Mike Alvernaz competed at the same event and finished fifth with a throw of 199 feet, 5 inches. Alvernaz also competed at the Milesplit RI Summer Track Series at Tucker Field in Cumberland and recorded a personal best throw of 207 feet, 4 inches.

Barrington's Faith Polando won the 15-16 girls' division 4K hammer throw at the USATF Region I Championships at Fitchburg State University with a throw of 121 feet, 7 inches. And Jack Dunn placed sixth in the 15-16 year old boys’ 12-pound hammer throw at the USATF Region I Championships with a throw of 38.20m (125-04).

Also, at the Milesplit RI meet last Tuesday, Annika Kelly won the 13-14 girls' hammer throw (3K hammer) with a throw of 144 feet 11 inches and the 4K hammer with a throw of 126 feet 4 inches.

Allena Kelly, participating in the 10 and under girls' competition, finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 24.9 seconds and seventh in the long jump with a distance of 4-10.5.
