Locals competing to be 'Miss Rhode Island's Outstanding Teen'

Two Barrington teenagers are hoping to impress the judges at an upcoming competition.

Jenna Andreozzi and Leigh Payne, both sophomores at Barrington High School, are hoping to be named Miss Rhode Island's Outstanding Teen and earn a chance to compete for the national title. 

The Rhode Island competition will be held at the Casino Theater in Newport on Sunday, May 22. 

Jenna and Leigh will face competition from around the state, including Tiffany Brooks (Miss Bristol’s Outstanding Teen), Paige Lavallee (Miss Bristol), and Victoria Cuartas (Miss East Providence).

The Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competitions are the products of the Miss America Scholarship Organization

Each state holds its own Miss America and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competitions to select their state representatives for the national competitions.

Following is information about the two teenagers from Barrington:

Jenna Andreozzi- Miss East Bay’s Outstanding Teen

• 16 years old

• Barrington High School sophomore

Interests and involvement

• Music — Attends School of Rock in Seekonk; writes her own music

• Student council

• Unified Theatre

• Writing

Pageant History/Info

• This is Jenna’s first pageant

• She reportedly joined because she wants to do something outside of her comfort zone

• Her platform is “What's On Your Mind?: Mental Health Awareness in Teens”

Leigh Payne- Miss Barrington’s Outstanding Teen

• 16 years old

• Barrington High School sophomore

Interests and involvement

• Rowing

 Music — piano/violin; student at Rhode Island philharmonic school

• Future Business Leaders of America

• INTERACT club

• Reading

Pageant History/Info

• This is Leigh’s first pageant

• She joined because she wants to find new ways to volunteer in the community
