Starting March 1, the hours of business will change at Barrington Town Hall.
The new hours call for a longer Monday — the town hall offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, business hours on Friday will be reduced — the town hall offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
The business hours remain the same Tuesday through Thursday — 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Town officials proposed the change to accommodate for people who need to do business at the town hall but are unable to get there during the current schedule, which is 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Barrington Town Council member Kate Weymouth made a motion to approve the new hours of operation for the town hall, and Steven Boyajian seconded the motion. The council voted 4-0 to approve the change.
Sarah O'Brien, a Barrington resident and member of the town's board of canvassers, told members of the town council that she thought changing the business hours was a fabulous idea. She added that she was hoping and assuming that the change would not be troublesome for the town hall staff.
The change includes a sunset clause — the ordinance allowing the new business hours will expire after six months unless otherwise extended by the town council.
