The Barrington High School wrestling team finished 14th out of 36 teams at the state wrestling tournament on Friday. The finish is even more impressive when coupled with the fact that Barrington brought just six wrestlers to the competition.

"We had a really solid meet," wrote Barrington coach Drew Genetti, adding that the Eagles had the third best finish among Division II teams at the event.

"All six of our wrestlers won at least two matches, which is a first for us," he wrote. "And four out of the six were top 8, with two medalists."

Barrington heavyweight Nick Rimoshytus wrestled to a fourth place finish, after losing a tough semifinal match to the top-ranked heavyweight wrestler in the state, LaSalle's Dante DelBonis. In the consolation semifinals, Nick pinned his opponent and battled Cumberland's Jaylen Reynolds in the consolation finals. In that match, Nick lost a close match, 3-1. 

"This season he beat everyone that finished below him (recording 22 pins on the season) and lost to the 3 kids who finished above him so it was nice that he wrestled to his place," wrote Genetti.

In the 126-pound division, Barrington's Matt Leonard finished his high school career with his third state medal. After an early loss, Matt battled back to reach the consolation semifinals. In that match he lost on a controversial overtime call.

Senior Will Kuhn, wrestling at 220 pounds, and junior Lucas Wilson-Wuestefeld, wrestling at 160 pounds, lost in the round of eight, finishing just one match away from the medal stand.

"Both wrestlers had opportunities to win their last matches but came up just shy losing by a couple points," wrote Genetti. "Both were also seeded much lower than where they finished and had incredibly strong tournaments."

Barrington sophomore Harry Masse wrestled at 138 pounds and won three matches, earning a top-12 finish, while Dallas Mashburn, wrestling at 120 pounds, made it to the second day of the tournament, finishing 2-2.
