After a devastating 17-0 loss to Bristol one week earlier, and against all odds, the Barrington 10U All Stars beat Bristol on two consecutive days to win the 2017 District 2 Championship.

On Saturday, Barrington battled back to win a gutsy come-from-behind 5-3 victory in Bristol earning them a spot in the District Championship the following day against Bristol. Playing at Sherwood Field, Barrington fought back from a two-run deficit in the sixth inning to defeat Bristol 6-4 and earn the District 2 title.

In the top of the sixth inning of the championship game, Bristol scored two runs to take a 4-2 lead, leaving Barrington with a two-run deficit going into its final at-bats.

In the bottom of the sixth, Bristol retired the first two Barrington batters on ground balls to the infield. A Bristol victory seemed close at hand. Then with two outs, Cullen Crain singled and Alex Anderson doubled. Chris “Bumpy” Promades followed with a walk to load the bases, bringing up Miles Fontaine.

Fontaine, first pitch swinging, connected on a towering drive that landed over the fence in left-centerfield for a game-winning walk-off grand slam home run. The Barrington crowd erupted, and Fontaine’s teammates and coaches mobbed him at home plate as he scored to complete the 6-4 victory.

The victory marked an impressive run to the title for Barrington.

After winning its opening game of the district tournament, Barrington advanced to a showdown with Bristol. The local team lost 17-0 and dropped into the elimination bracket. Barrington then bounced back from the loss by defeating Tiverton 7-1 on Tuesday, July 11.

With the win, Barrington earned another game against Bristol, and on Saturday, July 15, Barrington's All Stars battled to a 5-3 victory.

That win forced a final and deciding game against Bristol on Sunday night, which ended with the dramatic grand slam.

"The Eagles played their hearts out and were determined never to give up," wrote team manager Chris Promades. "Each player on the team contributed in the victory but most importantly the 10U All Stars made rewarding memories that will last a lifetime."

Barrington will next play in the 10U state tournament.

Win over Tiverton

Barrington defeated Tiverton 7-1 on July 11.

Barrington's Alex Anderson had a strong day on the mound, pitching five solid innings while allowing only only run. Meanwhile, Cullen Crain and Henry Kelsey had multiple hits to lead the offense, and Christopher Promades scored two runs for Barrington.
