Barrington's recycling rate passes 30 percent

Town earns rebate on its tipping fee

Posted

Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha said the town recently passed the 30 percent mark in recycling.

Having hit that milestone, the town earned a $2-per-ton rebate on its tipping fee at the central landfill in Johnston. That rebate totaled a little bit less than $10,000.

Mr. Cunha said Barrington officials are now looking at how to get more businesses in town to participate in the recycling program.

Parking change for South Lake Drive

The town council recently approved a change to the parking rules on South Lake Drive. People will now be prohibited from parking on that one-way road from sunset to sunrise. The previous ordinance prohibited parking from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Volunteers needed for town boards and commissions

The Barrington Town Council is looking for volunteers to serve on on the cemetery commission (one vacancy); housing board of trustees (three vacancies); and senior services advisory board (two vacancies). Résumé forms can be obtained at www.barrington.ri.gov, at the town clerk's office at the Barrington Town Hall, or at the Barrington Public Library. The deadline to submit a résumé to the town clerk’s office is Wednesday, Sept. 6.
