The Barrington High School boys basketball team gritted out a 53-50 comeback victory at Tiverton on Friday night, Feb. 8.

The Eagles trailed by a basket at halftime but outscored the Tigers 33-28 in the second half. Tiverton had a chance to tie the game, but missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. 

Will Rywolt led Barrington with 23 points, including three from behind the three-point arc. Ben Silvia added nine points for the Eagles and Ben Batting finished with eight. Brendan Conaty (six points), Ryan Bonneau (four points) and Matt Peecher (three points) also finished in the scoring column. 

The win over Tiverton followed a 69-52 victory against Pilgrim on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Nine Eagles scored against Pilgrim, led by Bonneau with 21 points. Conaty finished the game with 11 points, Peecher had 10 and Silvia and Rywolt each added seven. Barrington was 19-of-25 from the free throw line.

On Monday, Feb. 4, Barrington lost to Wheeler, 60-55. Barrington trailed by 10 at halftime and was unable to complete the second half comeback. Rywolt finished with 14, Silvia had 13, and Conaty added 10. 

The Eagles are 10-5 in the league.

Girls basketball

Barrington lost to St. Raphaels 58-35 on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and bounced back to defeat East Providence, 64-37, on Friday, Feb. 8. 

Against the Saints, Barrington fell behind 28-14 at the half and could not close the gap in the second half. Alex Marinelli led the Eagles with nine points, while Cary Heterick had eight, Alexis Malnerich finished with seven, and Elizabeth McConaghy added six. 

Barrington celebrated its Senior Night with a big win over East Providence. Olivia Middleton led all scorers with 27 points, while Marinelli finished with 13 and Lea Rouleau added nine. 

Barrington improved to 10-3 in the league, while East Providence fell to 0-13.

Girls ice hockey

Two unassisted goals from Maddie Cox and 29 saves in net by Ellee Kopecky powered the East Bay Co-op girls ice hockey team to a 2-0 victory over the Mount St. Charles/Cumberland/Lincoln Co-op team on Friday, Feb. 8.

The Eagles and Mounties remained knotted at 0-0 after the first period, but Cox found the back of the net at the 2:52 mark of the second period. The senior standout tallied her second goal at 8:58 in the third period. 

The win propelled East Bay to an 11-1 record. 

Boys swimming

Ethan O'Connor won a pair of events and the Eagles won two relay events during a 50-41 victory over East Greenwich on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

O'Connor won the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle. Gabe Arriagada won the 50 freestyle, and Gor Bagumyan won the 100 freestyle. The Eagles' Jackson Bennett won the 200 IM.

Hugh Elliot, Georgie Alexandre, Chris Silveiria and David McMillan teamed up to win the 200 free relay, while the team of Kellan Lane, Andrew Barton, Luke Gorham and William Kaon won the 200 medley relay. 

Girls swimming

The Eagles won a pair of meets last week, defeating East Greenwich 50-44 on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and Bay View 62-32 on Friday, Feb. 8.

Against East Greenwich, the Eagles' Garin Stone won the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, while Rachel Baker won the 100 freestyle and Amy Zhao won the 200 freestyle. Zhao, Baker, Emma DiGiacomo and Julia Zulker teamed up to win the 200 free relay. Melanie Baker, Stone, Zhao and DiGiacomo won the 400 free relay. 

Against Bay View, Stone won the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, while Zhao was tops in the 100 butterfly. Rachel Baker won the 500 free and DiGiacomo won the 100 free. DiGiacomo, Zhao, Stone and Zulker teamed up to win the 200 free relay, while Rachel Baker, Melanie Baker, Zhao and Zulker won the 200 medley relay.
