Softball team shuts out defending state champs, 6-0

The Barrington High School baseball team's winless streak stretched to five games, as the Eagles lost to Toll Gate, Cumberland and South Kingstown recently.

Barrington trailed Toll Gate 6-5 heading into the final inning, but allowed three runs to the Titans and fell 9-5 on Wednesday, April 13. Andrew Conaty pitched six innings for the Eagles and took the loss. 

Against Cumberland on Saturday, Barrington found itself trailing 10-2 after two innings. The Clippers extended their lead to 18-2 before the game was over. George Connelly and Brendan Watson shared pitching duties for the Eagles.

On Monday, the Eagles traveled to South Kingstown and came up empty in a 10-0 loss. Barrington trailed 2-0 after three innings, but the Rebels scored five runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Softball

Barrington grabbed a couple of key wins this week. 

On Thursday, the Eagles crushed Exeter/West Greenwich 10-0 in five innings. Paige Concannon pitched a perfect game, striking out 11 Knights in the victory. Sydney Parkhurst went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Maddy Cox went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple. 

On Monday, Barrington knocked off the defending state champs, St. Raphael's Academy, 6-0, at the Hank Soar Complex. Concannon was masterful again, pitching a complete game 2-hitter with six strikeouts. Lauren Grove was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4, while Kaylee Feather went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple. 

Tennis 

Barrington slipped to 1-2 after a 5-2 loss to South Kingstown last week. 

Number one singles player Jason Scanlon defeated Jason Yang, 6-1, 6-2, for one of Barrington's team points. The other came at fourth singles, when Barrington's Story Salit defeated Steven Josephson, 6-4, 6-4. 

Barrington opened the season with a 4-3 win over LaSalle and lost 6-1 to Hendricken. Scanlon was the only Barrington player to notch a victory against Hendricken. 

Boys' lacrosse

The Eagles lost 9-2 against Moses Brown, but bounced back for an 11-6 win over North Kingstown on Friday, April 15.

Owen Curry had six points in the win — scoring two goals and notching four assists. Lars Kenyon and Elias Hastings each finished with three points; Kenyon scored three goals while Hastings had two goals and an assist. Ben Sylvester, Max Thurston and Declan Curry each finished with two points also, while Stephen Paras had 11 saves. 

Girls' lacrosse

Barrington remained undefeated after beating LaSalle and Bay View last week.

The Eagles won 11-10 in overtime against LaSalle, and rolled to a 12-2 win over Bay View. Maeve Gaffney, Annie Berkery and Molly Coogan led the way against LaSalle, as each girl scored four points. Gaffney had three goals and an assist, while Coogan and Berkery each had two goals and two assists. Caroline Larisa finished with three points on two goals and an assist.

Volleyball

Barrington won its first game of the season, but still lost the match, 3-1 against Tolman, on Thursday, April 14. Tyler Prates had five kills and eight blocks and Ricky Yao had eight kills and five aces to pace Barrington, which lost 26-28, 8-25, 26-24, 20-25.
