Barrington opens playoffs today against North Kingstown

The Barrington High School field hockey team defeated Bay View 6-0 on Thursday and will open the playoffs on Thursday, Nov. 2, with a game against North Kingstown. 

The Eagles scored one first half goal and then broke the game open with five goals in the second half. Elizabeth Lewis led the scorers with four goals, while Madelyn Cox and Alexy Carolan also scored goals. Claudia Kriz and Lillyanne Dunphy each notched two assists and Cox and Carolan also assisted on goals. 

Barrington enters the playoffs as the top seed. Their first round game will be played at LaSalle Academy.

Boys soccer

The Eagles finished out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Chariho High School on Saturday, Oct. 28, and opened the playoffs with a win at home against Central on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Barrington finished the regular season with a 8-5-4 record overall, 7-3-4 in Division I. 

Girls soccer

Barrington celebrated the end of the regular season with a 4-2 win over Pilgrim on Friday, Oct. 27. Bella Alssid scored twice for Barrington, while Mary Cowden and Grace Muccino also found the back of the Pilgrim net. Anna Downes, Kamryn Voutes, Alssid and Cowden also notched assists, while Jenna Park made 13 saves in goal.

The Eagles will open the playoffs with a game at Coventry on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m. Barrington finished the regular season with a 5-9-2 record while Coventry finished with a record of 10-4-2.

Cross country

The Barrington High School girls cross country team won the Class A Championship on Saturday, capturing the top spot over second place LaSalle and third place North Kingstown. Barrington placed three runners in the top 10 spots — Caroline Livingston in third, Kate Zitzmann in fourth and Stephanie Chun in ninth. Tess Gagliano finished 12th and Lily Sefranek rounded out Barrington's top five with a 15th place finish.

The Barrington High School boys cross country team finished fourth in the Class B Championship meet. Eliot Laidlaw was Barrington's top runner, finishing in third place, while George Wicker was 25th, Brian Donahue was 26th, Anthony Pitts was 28th and Jamie Gunness was 30th.

The boys and girls teams will compete in the state championship meets on Sunday, Nov. 5 — the girls run at 1:15 and the boys run at 2. The meet will be held at Ponaganset High School.

Girls volleyball

Barrington finished the regular season with wins over East Providence, 3-1, and Mt. St. Charles, 3-0. 

The Eagles will play in a preliminary game on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will play at home — their opponent has net been determined yet. 

Football

The Eagles improved to 3-4 in Division I standings after a 26-12 victory over Cumberland High School on Friday night, Oct. 27. Barrington is scheduled to play at St. Raphaels on Friday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. 

Freshman football

The Eagles will play at home in a semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 9. It has not been determined who the Eagles will play against in the semifinal game.
