The Barrington High School girls' tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over Mt. St. Charles on Monday afternoon.

Barrington picked up wins from singles players Caroline Maher, Hope Robertson and Beth Wang, and the Eagles' doubles teams all won their matches in straight sets. Abigail and Jillian Walter at first doubles, Alexis Brenner and Andreea Dan at second doubles, and Lauren Jay and Corina Drimbarean at third doubles. 

"They are working hard in practice and it is paying off in matches," said coach Betsy Brenner about her team.

The win over Mt. St. Charles followed a season-opening victory against Bay View, 5-2, and a 6-1 loss to LaSalle. Against Bay View, Maher and Wang won their singles matches and all three doubles teams won. Against a tough LaSalle team, Barrington's Drimbarean and Eve Stockwell won their match at third doubles. 

Barrington will play against Wheeler on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in a match at Wheeler Farm. 

Girls' volleyball

The Eagles opened the season 3-0, with wins over Cranston West, Prout and Chariho. On Sept. 1, Barrington defeated Cranston West 3-1, and Sept. 6, the Eagles blanked Prout, 3-0. Victoria Mello led the Eagles with six kills and a block, while Grace Angelini finished with three kills and three digs. Barrington, the defending state champion, finished off last week with a 3-1 win over Chariho. Maile Somera was a force with 18 kills and eight digs, and Kaylee Feather tallied six digs and four serving aces. 

Barrington will host Bay View on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Football

The Barrington High School football team gave up 27 second quarter points and lost to Middletown, 40-0, in a non-league game last Friday night. The Eagles hope to bounce back from the loss when they host Woonsocket this Friday night at 7 p.m. The game is the division-opener for both teams. 

Boys' soccer

Alex Senich and Nick Rockwell each scored goals and Nicholas Perugini had an assist, leading the boys' soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Xavier High School on Friday, Sept. 1. Emmanuel Despines made three saves for the Eagles, while Christian Navarro finished with two. On Thursday, Sept. 7, Barrington tied Cumberland 1-1, moving its record to 1-0-1.

Girls' soccer

Barrington's record fell to 0-3, after losses to North Kingstown, Coventry and Cranston West. The Eagles lost 3-1 to North Kingstown on Thursday, Aug. 31. Adeline Fullaway scored Barrington's lone goal, and Jenna Park made 14 saves. 

On Tuesday, Sept. 5, Fullaway and Anna Downes each scored goals in a 2-3 loss to Coventry. Park finished the game with 23 saves, and stopped 11 shots against Cranston West in a 2-0 loss. 

Barrington will travel to East Greenwich on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game against the Avengers. 

Field hockey

Barrington opened its regular season with a 2-1 win over Moses Brown on Friday, Sept. 8. Madelyn Cox scored two goals for the defending state champion Eagles — one in each half — while Piper Broomhead assisted on both goals. Maddie Durkin made 14 saves for the Eagles. 

On Monday, Barrington improved to 2-0 with a 2-0 win over East Greenwich. Claudia Kriz and Cox each scored goals for the Eagles while Caleigh Durkin made 10 saves in net. Barrington and East Greenwich squared off in last year's state finals, with the Eagles winning the championship.

Barrington will travel to Lincoln High School on Wednesday, Sept. 13 for a 3:30 game.
