Barrington High School lost to Moses Brown 4-3 in a battle of the top two field hockey teams on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The undefeated Quakers built a 2-1 halftime lead against the Eagles, but Barrington stormed back with two goals in the second half to energize the home crowd.

The game was tied 3-3 midway through the second half when the Quakers scored the go-ahead goal and then held on for the 4-3 win.

Elizabeth Lewis, Madelyn Cox and Kaleigh Morgan each scored goals for Barrington. Morgan also notched an assist, as did Alexy Carolan and Maeve Harrington. Caileigh Durkin made six saves for Barrington.

Kari Buonanno led Moses Brown with two goals and an assist.

Barrington bounced back from the tough loss with a 2-0 victory over LaSalle Academy on Saturday, Oct. 13. Lewis scored twice to lead Barrington's offense and Durkin stopped six shots on net. 

The Eagles' record now stands at 4-2-1 in the division. Barrington was scheduled to host North Kingstown on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and East Greenwich on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Girls soccer

The Barrington High School girls soccer team improved to 7-3-1 after picking up two 2-1 victories last week.

The Eagles defeated Prout on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Olivia Middleton and Petra Bertoncini each scored first half goals for Barrington, which held on for the victory. Grace Muccino and Bella Richardson tallied assists, and goalie Jenna Park and the Eagles defense played well throughout.

Barrington defeated Bay View on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Victory Field. Kamryn Voutes and Ashley Edwards scored goals for the Eagles and Sarah Yee had an assist. Park made five saves in net. 

Barrington was scheduled to play against Scituate on Tuesday and will travel to Smithfield on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Boys soccer

Barrington bounced back from a 3-1 loss against Tolman on Tuesday, Oct. 9, with a 2-1 victory over Central High School on Monday night, Oct. 15.

Playing at Conley Stadium in Providence, the Eagles scored twice in the first half and held on for the win. Nicholas Perugini scored both goals for the Eagles, while Alex Soares assisted on one of the goals. Emmanuel Despines made nine saves for Barrington. 

Perugini scored Barrington's only goal against Tolman, while Josh Leadem notched the assist. Despines made eight saves in the loss.

Barrington's record is now 5-5-2. The Eagles will play at Central Falls on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m.

Girls tennis

Barrington High School celebrated a 6-1 win over Cumberland on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The win pushed Barrington's record to 6-2 in the division.

Kate Robertson won in straight sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Amiah Sommer, and Marie Chanfrau won a three-set match at second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Elizabeth Wang won 7-6, 6-2 at third doubles and Lauren Jay made it a clean sweep for the singles players, winning 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles.

The team of Eve Stockwell and Hope Vetromile won in three sets at first doubles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, and the third doubles team of Julia Stanchina and Alison Kostas were victorious, 6-7, 7-6, 1-0.

Barrington was scheduled to play against Bay View on Tuesday and LaSalle on Thursday.

Girls volleyball 

Barrington moved into first place in the division, boasting a 9-2 record, after defeating Mt. St. Charles 3-1 on Tuesday, Oct. 9, and Cumberland 3-0 on Monday, Oct. 15. 

Maile Somera continued to play well for Barrington in the 25-17, 25-19, 25-10 win over Cumberland. The senior standout tallied 24 kills, eight aces and eight digs for Barrington, while Camile Brousseau finished with three digs, two service aces and one assist.

Barrington defeated Mt. St. Charles 25-21, 13-25, 25-15, 25-20, paced by Grace Angelini and Casey Lambert. Angelini had 10 kills and 10 digs, while Lambert tallied 42 assists.

The Eagles will travel to Coventry on Thursday, Oct. 18 for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Football

Barrington High School fell to 1-4 in the division after losing 27-6 against Cranston West at home on Friday night. 

Cranston West scored early in the first quarter, when the Eagles fumbled the ball in their backfield and a Falcons player scooped it up and ran it into the end zone. The conversion kick gave West a 7-0 lead. Cranston scored again on a long run from scrimmage and pushed its lead to 21-0 at the half when they returned a punt for a touchdown. 

Barrington eventually scored in the fourth quarter on a short touchdown run by Nick Roach. 

The Eagles will face a tough test this Friday night against LaSalle Academy. The Rams are 4-1 on the season and consistently one of the top football teams in the state. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Victory Field.
