BHS winter concerts planned — first one is Dec. 5

Band alumni invited to join in the performance

Posted

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. the Barrington High School Music Department will present part one of its winter concert, featuring the concert band and Jazz ensemble, both under the direction of Barbara Hughes. The concert will take place at the high school.

Concert band highlights will include a performance of Apollo Myth and Legend by Rob Romeyn and Variations on Scarborough Fair by Calvin Custer.

In addition, a percussion ensemble comprised of 12 band students will perform Industria by N. Alan Clark. The band’s portion of the concert will conclude with Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson — all band alumni are invited to join in this annual tradition as co-director of the ensemble, Nahum Mitnik, "makes it snow!"

The Jazz ensemble will feature soloists on Cole Porter’s Night and Day, Ellington’s Oclupaca and Radiohead’s High and Dry.

Admission to the concert is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

Part 2 of the winter concert featuring the BHS choirs will take place on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
