BMS construction, Day 1: Crews examine the site

Temporary fences will go up this week, some trees will come down

Construction of the new Barrington Middle School started quietly on Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, as officials examined the site's landscaping.

Brait Builders Corporation President Michael Brait and other construction officials walked the athletic fields at the middle school, checking out the trees that surround the property. The trees have been marked with white and pink tape — specifying which trees will remain during construction and which ones will be removed.

Officials are also expected to install temporary fencing around the construction site and build parking areas for the work crews.

A recent post on the Barrington Middle School project blog stated that crews will also build construction entrances and close off access to the athletic fields, outdoor basketball courts and the "wall-ball" practice wall.

The blog also stated that the noise level this week would be "minimal" and traffic patterns would remain as they currently are.

Barrington School Committee voted unanimously on Feb. 1 to hire Brait Builders Corporation to construct the new school.

Brait was the low-bidder for the project at $51,275,000, which was about $3 million less than school officials had set for a construction budget. Brait had earned the recommendation of the Barrington School Building Committee during a meeting on Monday, Jan. 29.

Brait Builders Corporation, which is based in Marshfield, Mass., specializes in school construction projects. According to documents included in the company's bid package, Brait has completed 10 school construction or renovation projects in Massachusetts since 2012. Most recently, the company built a new middle/high school in Abington, Mass. and an intermediate and middle school in Nantucket.
