For the second time in the last three days, a dead body has been found in Barrington waters.

On Sunday morning at about 11 a.m., a motorist traveling on the Wampanoag Trail spotted what appeared to be a body washed up on an island in Hundred Acre Cove. The motorist called police, who responded to the area north of the Osamequin Bird Sanctuary and were able to confirm that it was a dead body on the nearby island.

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the Barrington Fire Department tried to launch its Zodiac boat in order to recover the body, but the tide was too low. He said firefighters instead put on hip-waders and walked out to the island. Chief LaCross said the firefighters placed the body on a floating sled and transported it back to the shoreline.

"There does not appear to be any signs of foul play," said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross. 

Chief LaCross said the medical examiner's office has taken custody of the body and is investigating, hoping to determine the identity of the individual and the cause of death. 

Chief LaCross said there are no missing persons reported in Barrington or East Providence currently, and his officers are contacting other nearby police departments to check about missing people.

On Friday morning, Barrington police and fire officials were called to the water off Nayatt Point after a quahogger spotted a body floating in the water. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is investigating that incident. DEM has not yet identified that individual.
