Owen Boudria scored 19 points as the Westport basketball team pounded St. John Paul II 70-33 in a non-league home game on Thursday night. Boudria, an athletic junior that can do it all, dished out 19 assists and made 6 steals and 4 blocks defensively as the Wildcats climbed back to 4-2. The athletic junior got what he asked for, which was more scoring from his peers. Senior forward Chris Duarte scored 14, his brother Cole Boudria, a freshman guard scored 9, Will Quinlan, Dane Leary and Luke Coelho each scored 6, Max Gallant netted 5, Fotis Machairas sank a 3-pointer, and Anthony Raposa hit a jumper.

“I have enjoyed playing with my brother but we have a long way to go,” said freshman guard Cole Boudria. “I thought the team played okay, but we are still learning.”

It was a stark difference from Tuesday night’s 53-39 non-league home loss to Bishop Stang, where the Wildcats threw up brick after brick and Owen Boudria had to take things into his own hands.

He was masterful, scoring 28 points with a pair of 3-pointers, 9 steals and 2 blocked shots. He scored 6 points in the first quarter before getting hot, scoring 11 in the second quarter and 11 more in the second half. The athletic lengthy forward was a force scoring most of his points with his pull-up jumper and driving to the hoop despite being double and triple teamed most of the night. His second quarter effort evened the score 19-19 at halftime, but the Westport defense couldn’t hold down Stang as they put up 34 second half points.

“We got to start hitting open shots,” he said after the loss. “We’re not taking it serious in practice. We act like we are going to hit shots in games, but we can’t. That’s including me too. I didn’t shoot well.”

Luke Coelho sank a pair of three-pointers in the loss. Max Gallant also sank a three-pointer and Chris Duarte netted a basket.

“He’s working hard,” said head coach Scot Boudria of his son, “But we all have to step up. It’s a team sport. Even if you have the best player on the court, the other seven have to contribute. I need to find the combinations that will do that. And that’s on me.”

“The whole roster needs to play better and work harder in practice. I need to coach better,” said Coach Boudria. “We need to be better. That’s all there is to it.”

The Westport girls basketball team pulverized South Shore Voc 59-19 in a non league game on Monday night to extend their undefeated record to 4-0.

Senior guard Korynne Holden led the Wildcats with 16 points and made 10 steals. Freshman guard Kylie Hazel scored 11 and brought down 10 rebounds. Julia George scored 9 points, made 7 assists, 6 steals and brought down 5 rebounds. Sarah Perry scored 7, Skylar Rezendes scored 6, Jenna Egbe scored 4, Tess Silvia and Meghan Molloy each scored 2.

Westport scored 33 points in the first half and added 26 more in the second half.
