EAST PROVIDENCE — Celeste Bowler and Kathryn Crowley are the two finalists for the soon-to-be vacant position of East Providence Schools Superintendent, The Post confirmed Monday, Nov. 2.
The pair are scheduled to be in attendance for public interviews at the East Providence School Committee meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Ms. Bowler is currently the assistant superintendent for the Hamilton-Wenham district in Massachusetts. Ms. Crowley is currently the part-time superintendent of Little Compton schools.
A resident of West Warwick, Ms. Bowler is in the midst of her fifth year in her position, having been hired in the summer of 2011. Located on the north shore, approximately 20 miles from Boston, the regional district has just under 1,800 students in five schools (high school, middle school and three elementary).
Ms. Crowley, of Cranston, has been superintendent in Little Compton since the start of the 2010-11 term. Previously, she was an assistant super for Johnston Public Schools for eight years (2002-2010) and was principal of Mt. Hope High School in Bristol for three (1999-2002).
The School Committee's stated goal is to have a new hire in place by the conclusion of its November 24 meeting, allowing for a transition period with the out-going Kim Mercer. Mrs. Mercer is retiring on December 30 of this year.
