Breakfast serves as kickoff to busy summer schedule for Barrington church

Holy Angels Church chicken dinner is July 12

After a sumptuous breakfast was served this past Sunday, members of the Summer Events Committee at Holy Angels Church, who have for years worked diligently to help raise money for the parish, once again rolled up their sleeves as summertime events approach.

Sunday’s breakfast was another great success. A good-sized crowd was treated to a menu which included pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, home fries, toast, mini muffins, fruit salad, tea, coffee, and juice. Nobody left hungry.

“I always enjoy coming to these church events,” said longtime parishioner Irene Ruggieri. “The committee and volunteers all work so hard. Everyone does such a great job.”

But the breakfast event was just the beginning.

The church’s annual barbecue chicken dinner will be served in the air-conditioned, fully-accessible church hall at 341 Maple Ave. on Thursday, July 12. According to Shawn DeHart, the parish’s public relations person, seating will begin at 6 p.m. Take-out orders that are requested at the time of tickets purchased will be ready for pickup at 5 p.m. The dinner ticket sales will begin on the weekend of June 23 and 24 and be ongoing until Monday, July 9, at noon.

“They’ll be available at the parish office during the week, and before and after our weekend Masses,” said Mr. DeHart.

The $15 dinner consists of a half a grilled chicken, tossed salad, corn-on-the-cob, dinner roll, watermelon, dessert, and coffee. A one-quarter chicken dinner, offered for children ages 12 and younger, will cost $8.

“We’ll be having a raffle at the barbecue,” Mr. DeHart said. “The good folks at Hattie Ide Chaffee Home have donated a Weber ‘Smokey Joe’ portable charcoal grill, grilling utensils, and charcoal for us to raffle. Thanks to Only the Finest Italian Cookies, a great business in Providence, we’re able to raffle a tray of homemade cookies.”

Other items that will be raffled off include gift certificates for The Ice Cream Barn, The China Gourmet, and the Coast Guard House; a subscription from East Bay Newspapers; tickets for the Block Island Ferry; movie passes for Cinema World in the Lincoln Mall; and tickets for a Pawtucket Red Sox baseball game at McCoy Stadium.

The parish’s popular Italian Food Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., in the Church Hall. Further details will be announced shortly.
