Bristol Police: Breaking and entering, assault, suspicious backpack, and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between May 22 and May 28:

Monday, May 22

A parent at Guiteras School stopped an officer to report a suspicious person at Sip ’N Dip across Hope Street just before 9 a.m. Police knew the man and knew there to be no danger. There was no word what made the parent find the man suspicious.

Police dispersed a person who was removing cans and bottles from recycling bins on King Philip Avenue in violation of town ordinances.

Officers responded to reports of a family disturbance, which involved women screaming, on High Street at 2:30 p.m. There turned out to be no issue, according to reports.

Tuesday, May 23

A woman was reportedly walking on the Mt. Hope Bridge, taking pictures from the top of the span around 7:30 a.m. Pedestrians are not allowed on the two-lane bridge.

A real estate sign was reportedly stolen from the front lawn of a home on Collins Street.

Animal control assisted with a woman on Ballou Boulevard who found nest of baby birds that apparently had fallen from a tree around 2 p.m.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Chilton Street around 8 p.m. A woman reported that her husband was refusing to hand over her car keys. A report was filed, but no arrest was made.

Wednesday, May 24

A resident reported a large group of people were loudly hanging out in front of her home on Hope Street around 12:30 a.m. The group was just walking downtown.
Elizabeth J. McCool, 28, of 25 reliance Drive, Bristol was charged with misdemeanor simple assault.

A backpack was reportedly left by itself near a flag pole at Colt State park. Police contacted the state DEM, which has jurisdiction over the park, and officers investigating, reportedly finding just clothes and fishing equipment.

A resident on Washington Street complained of a loud motor running in the area around 9:30 p.m. It turned out to be sewer employees working on the road nearby.

Thursday, May 25

Two juveniles were charged with attempted breaking and entering, and conspiracy after a 911 call brought police to a home on Harrison Street just after 9 a.m. The resident called police after allegedly witnessing one the teenagers trying to break into her home. One, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, took off on a BMX bike, and another, wearing a blue sweatshirt, took off on foot. Officers contacted their counterparts in Warren to help search for the suspects, one of whom was caught near Narrows Point, another near Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue.

A driver was reportedly driving recklessly, nearly hitting several other cars on Wood and Church streets just after 9:30 a.m. Officers caught up with the driver and issued a warning.

A man was reportedly yelling “Hey boy” repeatedly for about a half hour on Bradford Street around 2:30 p.m. Police sent him on his way.

Officers responded to a family disturbance on Scott Lane that turned out to be just a verbal argument between a mother and daughter.

Friday, May 26

Officers responded to reports of an argument between a man and a woman on Hope Street at noon, filing a report but making no arrest.

A resident reported a scammer was trying to rent out her apartment on Hope Street.

A group of juvenile drivers were reportedly spinning their tires in a parking lot on Buttonwood Street. They were gone when police arrived.

Saturday, May 27

A resident on Smith Street reported hearing a loud bang just before the power went out at 8:30 a.m. National Grid was contacted.

A resident on Doran Avenue called police because there were people in a car on the street outside around 11 a.m. There was no word on why the resident found the people suspicious; they were college students moving out of a nearby home.

A resident on Sousa Street complained of a landscaper with an uncovered load. There was no police action required, as is frequently the case when officers are called to Sousa Street.
An elderly woman was reportedly running in the middle of the road at Hope Street and Good Avenue at 3:30 p.m. A relative came to pick the woman up.

Several callers reported spotting an elderly man walking toward the Mt. Hope Bridge around 8:30 p.m. He was brought to Newport Hospital for treatment of unspecified ailments.

Sunday, May 28

A resident on Naomi Street called police to report a possibly intoxicated man was walking down the street. There was no police action required.
Police were called to Francis Street for a domestic disturbance at 11 a.m. A man said he was trying to leave the home “in peace,” but his girlfriend wouldn’t let him. The couple was separated.

A man waiting for a RIPTA bus reportedly urinated in the backyard of a home on Frankin Street just after noon. The man was on the bus before police arrived.

Two dogs were reportedly hit by a car on Lincoln Avenue at 1 p.m. animal control responded.
Donna J. Beauregard, 54, of 16 5th St., Attleboro, Mass., was arrested on a 6th District Court bench warrant for failure to appear in court.

Police assisted with an accident at Metacom and Kickemuit avenues at 6:30 p.m. involving a car and a motorcycle. Three people were brought to Rhode Island Hoospital with unspecified injuries.

Jason D. Salinger, 43, of 15 Burton St., Apt. 1, Bristol, was charged with domestic vandalism, domestic disorderly conduct and vandalism after people were called to Papa Joe’s Wrap Shack on Hope Street for reports of an argument between a man and a woman at 7 p.m.

Police were called back to Sousa Street for a complaint of fireworks being lit off at 8:30 p.m. They were unable to locate the offender.
