Bristol Police: Busy weekend of fireworks, loud parties, drunk driving, stolen golf cart

Though Bristol police officers were racing around town for most of the Fourth of July weekend, they arrested only a few people, including two drunk drivers on parade day. The majority of calls were for fireworks, fights and loud parties. Below is a log of Bristol Police activity from June 29 to July 5.

Monday, June 29

Police were called to Enterprise Rent A Car on Metacom Avenue for a dispute over damage to a car at 11:15 a.m.

Officers were called to Beach Road, where two trees on town property had been removed without consent.

Officers were called to a fight at the Rhode Island Veterans' Home at 2:53 p.m. State police were notified.

Someone reported a man urinating near a vehicle in the parking lot near People's Credit Union on Gooding Avenue at 4:41 p.m. The man was gone when police arrived.

Police were called to the Bristol Sports Club on Wood Street for a man sleeping inside a vehicle at 5:26 p.m.

A caller on State Street reported a laptop stolen.

A caller on High Street reported a bicycle stolen.

A 27-year-old Barrington woman was arrested after a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the corner of Hope and Church streets at 10:21 p.m. Ashley E. Cloutier of Barrington was charged with DUI.

Tuesday, June 30

An officer responded to High Street, where people were found to be living in a camper parked on the road, in violation of town ordinance.

An officer responded to the State Street dock to investigate a report of a dog tied to a vehicle. The dog was in good health and the owner was on the scene.

Officers responded to a noise complaint on Summer Street at 8:02 p.m.

Wednesday, July 1

A woman on Third Street called police at 3:26 a.m. to complain about someone knocking on her window. According to the officer, it was someone from a repossession company.

Officers responded to the intersection of Metacom Avenue and Roosevelt Drive for a motor vehicle accident at 7:58 a.m. A patient refused hospital transport.

Someone reported a male in a pink or orange shirt urinating in Sowams Park at 9:35 a.m. The suspect was gone when officers arrived.

Someone called police to report loose dogs on Annawamscutt Drive.

Police were called to Sip 'n Dip on Hope Street for an alleged fight or disturbance at 3:33 p.m. No one was arrested.

An officer responded to the Citizens Bank inside Stop & Shop for an open 911 call. It turned out to be an employee attempting to send a fax.

Officers took a nuisance complaint at 10:06 p.m. at 394 Metacom Ave.

Someone called police to complain about fireworks going off at the bottom of Aaron Avenue at 11:32 p.m.

Thursday, July 2

A 17-year-old Warren resident was arrested for DUI after being pulled over near the intersection of Metacom and Bay View avenues at 12:49 a.m.

Police received a report of people lying in the roadway in front of Sip 'n Dip Donuts on Hope Street at 1:34 a.m. Officers sent them on their way.

Officers responded to complaints of a barking dog on Thompson Avenue at 3:23 a.m. The animal control officer responded.

A caller on Viking Drive reported damage to a mailbox at 6:40 a.m.

Units responded to a dryer fire at East Bay Laundromat on Gooding Avenue at 12:07 p.m.

Someone reported a dog locked in a car in the parking lot outside Benny's at 12:50 p.m. The vehicle was gone when an officer arrived.

An officer was called to Holly Lane because of a disorderly 15-year-old male. The parents handled the situation and there were no arrests.

An officer was called to a verbal argument allegedly between a man and woman at the intersection of High and State streets. There were no arrests, as it turned out to be a child yelling.

Officers responded to a disturbance/fight on the Wood Street side of the Town Common at 8:49 p.m. There were no arrests and the parties were dispersed.

Police received complaints about noise or fireworks at Franklin and Hope streets at 8:58 p.m.; Siegel Street at 9:58 p.m.; Catherine Street at 9:59 p.m.; and Constitution and Hope streets at 9:59 p.m.

An officer was called to Viola's Liquors on Wood Street for an intoxicated man at 10:10 p.m.

More fireworks complaints were received at 11:15 p.m. on Bradford Street, and at 11:54 p.m. on Robin Drive.

Friday, July 3

Officers lodged a noise complaint at 12:35 a.m. on Monterey Road.

They had another noise complaint at 1:25 a.m. on Aaron Avenue.

Another noise complaint was received at 2:16 a.m. on Sherman Avenue.

Officers responded to the Mt. Hope Bridge house on Ferry Road, where Roger Williams Security had found a male hiding underneath a vehicle. An officer transported him home.

An officer was called to check on a dog left inside a vehicle at Bristol Total Fitness at 9:02 a.m. The owner came out to check on the dog, too.

A caller from Tupelo Street reported a possibly rabid coyote. It could not be found.

The animal control officer called for assistance to Kickemuit Avenue at 11:47 a.m., when an owner refused to release a dog that had been cited for running loose and being unlicensed.

An officer responded to the parking lot at Stop & Shop for a dog left inside the vehicle. It was gone when the officer arrived.

One person was transported to the hospital after a bicyclist was struck by a landscaping truck on Poppasquash Road near Colt State Park at 2:11 p.m.

An officer responded to Sowams Drive at 3:28 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.

A woman on Bay Street called police to report that residents of an abutting property on Oliver Street were playing extremely loud music.

An officer responded to Hope and Franklin streets at 6:30 p.m. for an argument over a parking space.

Marine Rescue and harbormaster units searched the water south of the Mt. Hope Bridge after a boater found an empty kayak floating in Narragansett Bay with personal belongings inside. The kayaker was later found on Hog Island.

An officer responded to Hope Street, where kids were trying to knock over a port-a-john at 8:59 p.m.

A caller on Church Street reported loud music at 11 p.m.

Fireworks complaints were received from Sousa Street at 11:11 p.m.; Dimond Avenue at 11:15 p.m.; and Buttonwood Street at 11:31 p.m.

Officers responded to Pearse Avenue for loud music at 11:35 p.m.

Saturday, July 4

Police received more fireworks complaints: 12:14 a.m. at Franklin and Hope streets; 12:15 a.m. on Etelvina Court; 12:38 a.m. on Jameson Drive; and at 12:46 a.m. on Hope Street.

Police received noise complaints for loud parties at 1:12 a.m. on Greenway Drive; 1:18 a.m. on DeWolf Avenue; 1:55 a.m. on Pearse Avenue; 2:38 a.m. on Etelvina Court; and 2:53 a.m. on Buttonwood Street.

Police received a complaint about loud music at 2:43 a.m. on Sowams Drive.

Officers responded to the parade route near Poppasquash Road at 11:09 a.m. to clear away people who were blocking the parade.

Officers dispersed someone in a dog suit who was interrupting the parade near Hope Street and Usher Terrace at 11:10 a.m.

During the Fourth of July Parade, officers responded to seven complaints along the parade route, including a Siberian Husky acting erratically, someone pointing a laser pointer in people's eyes, and two unattended backpacks.

Jeremy A. Jackson Jr., 48, of Providence, was arrested and charged with DUI, refusing to take a chemical test, and driving on an expired license at 3:50 p.m.

Steve Bryan, 57, of 54 Anoka Ave., Barrington, was charged with DUI, refusing to take a chemical test, and driving on a suspended license, after he was stopped on Tupelo Street at 4:11 p.m.

Someone called police to report that the doors to the Reynolds School were unlocked and people were walking inside at 4:16 p.m.

Residents called police to complain about loud music and/or fireworks at 8:30 p.m. on Sousa Street; 10:33 p.m. on Hopeworth Avenue; 11:04 p.m. on Fernwood Road; 11:13 p.m. on Leila Jean Drive; 11:14 p.m. on Etelvina Court; and 11:35 p.m. on Sousa Street. The Leila Jean incident resulted in a citation.

Sunday, July 5

Officers were called to a disturbance at 12:12 a.m. at the corner of State and Thames streets.

Police received a noise complaint on Franklin Street at 12:26 a.m.

Officers responded to a family disturbance on Hope Street at 12:47 a.m. They removed one male from the residence.

Officers responded to an argument outside at Hope and Washington streets at 1:20 a.m.

Someone called to report fireworks at 2:08 a.m. on Burke Road.

A loud group of five people were advised to move the party inside at 2:20 a.m. on Prospect Street.

After responding to a complaint at Union Street Beach, officers arrested Kevin M. Ferreira, 42, of 13 Easterbrooks Ave., Apt. 1, Bristol, on a warrant from District Court.

Someone reported loud music on Brookwood Road at 6:47 p.m.

Someone complained of fireworks at 8:42 p.m. on Court Street.

A loud party was reported on Church Street at 9:14 p.m.

A 30-year-old Bristol man was arrested and charged with stealing a golf cart belonging to the Fourth of July Committee, which had been parked near Goglia's Market on Wood Street. Richard D. Marshall of 199 State St., Apt. 1, was charged with larceny over $1,500.
