Monday, Oct. 23

A Maple Avenue resident reported deck chairs stolen from their home.

Bristol Police nab three drunk drivers, break up parties

Following is a report on Bristol Police Department calls and arrests from Oct. 23 to Oct. 30.

Monday, Oct. 23

  • A Maple Avenue resident reported deck chairs stolen from their home.
  • A Mt. Hope Avenue resident reported a bicycle stolen.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

  • A Bradford Street caller complained of loud neighbors banging furniture at 12:22 a.m.
  • A caller from Noyes Avenue complained about a loud vehicle idling in the area at 3:39 a.m.
  • A caller reported vagrants loitering in the covered entry of the Bristol Art Museum at 12:27 p.m., but they were gone before an officer arrived.
  • An officer was called to the parking lot of the Bristol County Medical Center at 2:39 p.m. to check on the wellbeing of a dog left in a car while it was 71 degrees outside. The officer found the dog was fine; the car’s sunroof was open.
  • Someone reported juveniles peering into the windows of a vacant residence on Scott Lane at 3:08 p.m. They were gone when an officer arrived.
  • An officer was called to the bus stop at Gooding Plaza because someone discovered a used syringe under the bench at 3:10 p.m.
  • A Creek Lane resident reported vandalism to their car at 7:02 p.m.
  • A State Street resident complained of an odor from a burnt leafy substance at 11 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 25

  • Someone reported a Thames Street garage door open at 1:36 a.m. There was no sign of foul play.
  • A man called from a Bourne Street residence at 2:50 a.m. to report being assaulted by a woman who had left in a car headed for Newport. Officers pursued and stopped her car on the Portsmouth side of the Mt. Hope Bridge. Andrea S. Weeden, 24, of Newport, was taken into custody, charged with domestic felony assault and domestic disorderly conduct, and arraigned in District Court.
  • Police were called about a loose pitbull on Annawamscutt Drive at 2:38 p.m. The owner was attempting to retrieve the dog and asking for assistance.

Thursday, Oct. 26

  • Anthony M. Soares, 18, of East Long Meadow, Mass., was arrested for underage possession of alcohol at Bristol Liquors on Metacom Avenue.
  • A customer at Gillary’s on Thames Street called police because he said the staff confiscated his ID at 10:14 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 27

  • Officers dispersed a group of seven people from the corner of High and State streets at 12:07 a.m.
  • A resident complained of loud people near High and Court streets at 1:09 a.m.
  • A officer dispersed a large group of people from the area of State and Wood streets at 1:14 a.m.
  • Charles J. Driscoll, 21, of Mont Vernon, N.H., was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test after his car was stopped along Metacom Avenue at 2:03 a.m.
  • Abdulrahman L. Alanazi, 26, of 400 Metacom Ave., Apt. 501, Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test after his car was stopped along Metacom Avenue at 2:40 a.m.
  • A caller from Ferry Road reported vandalism to their mailbox at 9:12 a.m.
  • Someone reported a loose pitbull in the area of State and First streets at 1:33 p.m.
  • A resident from Pearse Avenue complained about construction debris being placed on her property.
  • Daniel Hayes, 19, of Douglas, Mass., was charged with possession of marijuana at 7:58 p.m.
  • A resident called to report loud noise from the Almeida Apartments on Bay View Avenue at 11:30 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 28

  • Officers dispersed a group of people from the area of Wood Street and Bay View Avenue at 12:19 a.m.
  • Officers were called to disperse a group of loud people yelling in the street in the area of High and Oliver streets at 12:42 a.m.
  • A resident on Sherry Avenue called police to report a man sleeping on their back porch. Rescue was dispatched for an evaluation.
  • At 7:07 a.m., a resident on Buttonwood Street complained about a landscaping company that started work before 8 a.m.
  • Someone called police to report that a person walking a dog was allowing the dog to urinate on headstones inside North Burial Ground at 8:27 a.m.
  • A dog bite was reported at 8:28 a.m. on Monterey Drive.
  • David T. O’Connor, 33, of Barrington, was arrested on a Superior Court warrant.
  • A resident on St. Elizabeth Street reported vandalism to a vehicle.
  • An officer was called to Brookwood Road at 2:47 p.m. to take a report about a neighbor dispute.
  • A resident called to report a house party on State Street at 10:04 p.m.
  • Someone complained of a house party on High Street at 10:48 p.m.
  • Stratton Stilianos, 21, of Lynnfield, Mass., was charged with consumption of an alcoholic beverage in public after police were called to High Street at 11:12 p.m.
  • Police received a noise complaint from the area of Bay View Avenue and Magnolia Street at 11:33 p.m. Officers requested a Roger Williams University shuttle bus for a large group of students.
  • Roger Williams public safety called Bristol Police at 11:36 p.m. to request assistance removing a woman from campus.
  • After being called to investigate noise on Bristol Wood Drive at 11:46 p.m., an officer discovered it was someone’s loud TV.
  • Police were called about loud music and parties on Roma Street at 11:52 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 29

  • Someone complained of loud music on Wood Street at 12:16 a.m.
  • Officers dispersed three people from State and Hope streets at 1:07 a.m.
  • Someone complained of a house party on Garfield Avenue at 1:48 a.m.
  • Mathew Eric Gasparini, 20, of E. Longmeadow, Mass., was charged with driving under the influence and underage possession of alcohol at 2:57 a.m. on State Street.
  • Someone reported a male trying to open car doors at 10:16 a.m. in the area of Magnolia and State streets. A responding officer found the juvenile and transported him home.
  • A Jameson Drive resident called to report a possibly rabid coyote at 11:11 a.m. It was not rabid, just injured.
  • A caller from Sousa Street reported an unsecured load of grass clippings in front of her residence at 12:28 p.m.
  • Someone reported a tablet stolen from a vehicle at the town beach at 7:36 p.m.
  • A Hope Street resident called at 8:43 p.m. to report a loud bang in the area, then called back a few minutes later to report that it was an outside planter that fell in the wind.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
