Police investigate girl's report of abduction attempt

Posted

According to Bristol Police, reports of an abduction attempt at Guiteras School Thursday were unfounded.

The mother of a nine-year-old Guiteras School girl posted the following message on Facebook Friday:

“To all Parents: Yesterday a brown 2 door ford 4x4 pick up truck tried to lure my daughter off the playground at recess....Bristol Police are aware as well as the Guiteras School.... Keep your eyes open and keep your kids close…”

As of Friday afternoon, the post had 200 shares.

Captain Brian C. Burke of the Bristol Police told The Phoenix Friday that the incident was a misunderstanding. A parent of another student was driving by the school at recess time and was having a conversation with their child in the playground.

“Another child sitting on the bench thought that the comment was directed towards her,” said Captain Burke.

“After school was dismissed this came to us. From the description the student gave us we were able to identify the vehicle and the owner. We spoke to the owner and confirmed he or she does have a child that goes to the school. It was no abduction.”
