Children from young to old celebrated the final day of the six-week summer program at Camp St. Dorothy in Bristol with their annual water battle Friday morning, which matches camper against camper, counselor against counselor, and camper against counselor, in a fun — and very wet — event.
With a sharp whistle from the camp director, Sister Mary Sardinha (commonly known as "Sister Sards"), the campers charged forth from behind barricades at opposite ends of the parking lot with water balloons in each hand. For about 30 minutes, they unleashed two rounds of water battles, with no clear winners or losers — but everyone had a good time.
Camp St. Dorothy is hosted by the Sisters of St. Dorothy on a sweeping, waterfront property off Monkeywrench Lane, near the southern end of Bristol across from Roger Williams University. This is Sister Sards' 48th year overseeing the summer camp program.
