Power trucks filled Sip N'Dip parking lot as they worked on stabilizing new electrical poles along Hope Street in Bristol on Friday. According to National Grid crew members, electrical crews arrived late Thursday night to work on four poles that blew over due to brutal winds that blasted across Bristol Harbor and took down poles and wires, rendering parts of Bristol powerless.
Crews worked over night replacing the poles despite the arctic winds and freezing temperatures and restored power early Friday morning.
Noontime Friday, crews were stabilizing the new poles and getting power restored to Sip N'Dip.
Earlier reports:
Hope Street in Bristol has reopened as of around 7:15 a.m. and power to the area has been restored.
The road had been closed to all vehicles from Poppasquash Road to Washington Street for hours due to power line problems near Washington Street by the harbor.
At 5:25 a.m., a police officer said that electrical crews were working on several downed or damaged poles and had been for awhile. He said that he had just been told that repairs might take another couple hours to complete.
"Not a good night to lose power," he said as a frigid northwest wind whipped in off the harbor.
Houses all appeared dark in the vicinity of the Poppasquash entrance area and west of Hope Street in the Washington Street area.
