Brothers become East Providence Police "Chief for a Day"

EAST PROVIDENCE — Two very lucky brothers were sworn in as Chief of Police for the day on Monday, Dec. 28. Twin brothers, Zachary and Alex Moreira, were granted this wish when their mother participated in a silent auction at Kent Heights Elementary School last spring.

The boys, who recently had birthdays, celebrated in style by spending the day with East Providence Police Chief Chris Parella, who showed them the ropes and granted them the opportunity to have an inside look into the inner workings of the department.

The boys started with a tour of the police station, meeting all of the officers. Once their police station tour was complete, they drove over to city hall to meet with City Manager Richard Kirby, who asked them many questions about their goals as chief. The boys both stated that as chief, they will protect and serve their city. Mr. Kirby then asked what changes they would like to implement in the city. Both boys answered by stating they would love to see a skatepark in the City along with new playground equipment.

The completion of their day as chief ended by holding role call which gave them the opportunity to address the officers getting ready to start their shift.
