The retail building behind the BP gas station at 223 County Road in Barrington was demolished recently.

The structure, built in 1956, had been vacant for many years and was in disrepair. Until the late 1980s, a variety of retails stores did a thriving business there, selling popular clothing and shoe styles of the day.

The owner of the property, Power Test Realty Co. LP managed by Getty Realty Corp, also own the BP station.

Road repaving begins

The Barrington DPW is managing the road repaving project this fall, and Mr. Piccirelli said the entirety of Federal Road and portions of Lincoln Avenue and Upland Way will be under construction in the upcoming weeks, followed by Crowne Road, Stanhope Drive, Old River Road, Howard Street and Anthony Road.

Traffic will be detoured or rerouted in those areas and Mr. Piccerelli wants residents traveling in those areas to be aware of delays. The work will continue to Appian Way and Cedar Avenue and Elm Lane.

J.H. Lynch & Sonsa, Inc. of Cumberland won the bid for the road resurfacing project.

Signs in Barrington Shopping Center

It’s not new news, but last spring, one way and do not enter signs were erected in the center, alerting motorist as to traffic patterns.

For many years, the lack of signs caused problems with motorists, especially newcomers or out-of-towners, traveling in the wrong direction entering or exiting the area.

The shopping center is owned by ACP Shopping Center Associates, a division of Paolino Properties in Providence.
