Driggs: Stop the power grab — vote the TTA slate

Posted

The TTA endorsed slate which comprised the Charter Review Commission (CRC) fulfilled its pledge to preserve the Financial Town Referendum (FTR).
Not so the Town Council (TC).

Councilman John Edwards’ proposal to the CRC eliminated the FTR and the Budget Committee (BC), and had the Town Council adopt the budget.

Councilwoman Patricia Hilton’s proposal to the CRC included raising the signature requirement to 200, eliminating the elector petition remand option, and putting the town solicitor in charge of allowing taxpayer-initiated petitions on the FTR ballot.
The Town Council placed Hilton’s proposal on the November 6 ballot, signalling the end of another taxpayer option allowed on the ballot, or another successful taxpayer vote at the FTR.

Since the TC, for the first time, blocked all CRC proposals from that ballot, vote for the TTA endorsed slates for TC and BC. Pay attention to the TTA red, white and blue signage and cards, a brand you can trust to fight for Tiverton Taxpayers’ best interests.

On November 6, reject all TC charter change proposals.
