Car theft suspects arrested in Swansea possibly connect to Warren thefts

Posted

Three individuals were arrested in Swansea on Monday while allegedly in possession of a stolen motor vehicle that also appeared to contain items stolen from vehicles in Warren, according to police.

The development adds intrigue to an ongoing streak of auto thefts and larcenies from vehicles that have been occurring in Warren throughout the past couple of weeks.

“From July 7 through July 17, we have had five stolen vehicles and at least six reported vehicles having been gone through throughout town,” said Lt. Christopher Perreault. “There have been additional patrols added during this time due to these events taking place. As of the time of this email, two of the vehicles have been recovered (one in Pawtucket and another in Attleboro). Additionally, Swansea Police took three individuals into custody this morning [Monday] while possessing a stolen motor vehicle with numerous items believed to have been stolen from vehicles from Warren. It is believed that some of these items were stolen from vehicles in Warren, but it is still under investigation.”

Following the report of another stolen vehicle this past week, along with several reports of cars being broken into, the Warren Police Department is one again asking residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to them, especially if their vehicle has been broken into or stolen.

“If someone believes that their vehicle was entered and items stolen, please report this to the Warren Police. This is the only way we can return stolen property to owners but more importantly, it may assist in our investigation by narrowing down where the suspects were targeting,” Perreault continued. “In turn, it will help the Warren Police Department be able to obtain surveillance video assisting in identifying any potential suspects.

Most importantly, vehicle owners should be locking their vehicles and not leaving any items in plain view, which individuals will see as a reason to enter the vehicle.”
