Carolyn F. (Mello) DaPonte, 84, of Warren, died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Hope Hospice in Providence. She was the wife of Anthony DaPonte.

Carolyn was born in Warren, a daughter of the late Serafine and Mary (Palazio) Mello. Mrs. DaPonte was a Teacher's Aide for St. Philomena School, and also had worked for the Bayside YMCA. She was a graduate of Warren High School, Class of 1952.

A Warren resident all of her life, she was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church, and she was an avid reader. Carolyn enjoyed being with her friends every day at the Coffee Depot.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons, Paul John Daponte and his wife Adreanne of New Jersey and Michael DaPonte and his wife Vicki of Maryland. She was also the mother-in-law of Linda DaPonte.

Mrs. DaPonte was the grandmother of Lauren, Matthew, Emily, Noah, Joseph, Simeon and Seraphina, and she was also the great-grandmother of William. She was the sister of the late Richard Mello, and the mother of the late William DaPonte.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 8:30 am from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 am in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street, Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
