Charles E. Fortin, Jr., 64, of Bristol

Mr. Charles E. Fortin, Jr., age 64, of Constitution Street, Bristol, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Janet A. (McLaughlin) Fortin, his wife of 37 years.

Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident of Bristol, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Annie (Vieira) Fortin, Sr. Charles served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years aboard the USS San Diego. He was a mechanical engineer for the State of Rhode Island at the University of Rhode Island for over 30 years, retiring in September of 2011. 

An avid sports fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, he enjoyed photography, art, fly fishing with his hand-tied flies, which he took pride in making, and playing guitar.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Robert L. Fortin, and a daughter, Melissa J. Leffingwell (Bryan), both of Bristol. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, are Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m.
