St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, in partnership with Arts In Common, will present a holiday gift to the Bristol community — the Aurea Ensemble production of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” which features a reading of the Dylan Thomas classic story, with musical interludes of festive chamber music, harpsichord and traditional English carols.
The program is on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s, 399 Hope St. It opens with varied works to celebrate the winter solstice and holiday season, including music of William Boyce, Krishan Oberon’s setting of The Oxen, Rebecca Clarke’s Combined Carols, poetry of Andrew Marvel, Mary Oliver, Katherine Mansfield, Longfellow and harmonica improvisations of Chris Turner.
Ensemble members include Consuelo Sherba, artistic director and viola; Nigel Gore, spoken word; Chris Turner, spoken word and harmonica; Katherine Winterstein, violin; and Emmanuel Feldman, cello. Joining Aurea is returning guest artist, Frederick Jodry, harpsichordist and voice.
With St. Michael’s gift of underwriting the concert, proceeds from ticket sales will go to support the Community String Project.
Tickets are $10 general admission, or $20 for a family. Tickets are available at the door.
‘Donation’ tickets are available if you can’t make the concert, but want to show your support. For every donation ticket purchased, a local senior or family in need will be offered to hear the concert at no charge.
Advance tickets are available at St. Michael’s, Paper, Packaging & Panache at 418 Hope St., and from the Community String Project office in Byfield School at 220 High St.
