Christine (Votaw) Carvalho, 58, of Bristol, died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol.

She was the wife of Bruce Carvalho.

Christine was born in Fall River, a daughter of Angelina(Moreira) Votaw of Bristol and the late Harrod Votaw. She was Certified Nurse’s Assistant an Certified Medical Technician for the Silver Creek Manor for more than 30 years. She was a Bristol resident for more than 15 years, coming from Warren.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church.

Besides her husband and mother, Christine is survived by her sister, Dora Lee Owen of North Carolina. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Jeffrey F. Carvalho, and a sister of the late Susan Tommela.

Her funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27 from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Str., Warren. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
