Claire A. Chartier, 77, of Barrington

Claire A. Chartier, 77, of Barrington, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of Robert “Bob” Chartier.  

Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late August and Elsie (Maynard) Richard. Mrs. Chartier was a bookkeeper for the Grinnell Bookkeeping Company before she retired. She was a member of the Barrington Women’s Club, the East Bay Chorus and the Bristol County Interfaith Choir. She was also a communicant of St. Luke’s Church and a member of the choir.  

Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Robert “Bob” Chartier, Jr. and Michael Chartier and his wife Lori, three grandchildren, Stephanie Joly, Brittany Costa and Daniel Kieffer and two great-grandchildren, Sierra Joly and Madison Field. She was the sister of the late Elaine Riendeau.  

Her funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at 8:15 a.m. from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Luke’s Church, Washington Road, Barrington. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions to the Comprehensive Cancer Center, PO Box H, Providence, RI 02901 would be appreciated.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
