Common Ground Coffee opens in Westport's Central Village

Posted

They’ll hold a grand opening once they are really off and running, but in the meantime the owner of Westport’s newest coffee shop invites passersby to give them a try.

Common Ground Coffee Shop is serving coffee and breakfast foods at 782 Main Road, “right in the heart of the village — next to Village Pizza,” said owner Stefan Grein.

It’s a great location, he thinks, both for customers who follow that route to work or the beach, and for himself.  It’s conveniently four doors down from his other business, Fourtech Computer Services (770 Main Road).

“I can run back and forth if need be,” he said.

That shouldn’t happen too often since his wife Daphne and a young staff are behind  the coffee shop counter every weekday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. — weekend hours will begin soon too.

The emphasis here is “local, local, local,” Mr. Grein said. “We get out milk from Arruda’s, our cheese from Shy Brothers … “

He said they are also proud that their coffee supplier provides them with single origin coffee.

If you go to most distributors, the coffee you get could be from several locations in Brazil. “But with ours, you can look at the map and see the precise farm where the coffee was grown.” This enables much better control over quality and flavor, he said.

Along with coffee, offerings so far include pastries, bagels, croissants, scones,” all from nearby bakers. They’ll also be selling bags of ice and bottled water.

Appropriate, the shop’s interior decor “reminds you of the beach — cheerful and fun.”

They’ve launched a Facebook page (search Common Ground Coffee Westport) that will provide information about the business and the grand opening to come.
