D. Carol Silvia, 70, of Little Compton, after a long illness, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2017, in the loving embrace of her family. She is survived by her husband, John Silvia of Little Compton; sons, Ian Silvia of Little Compton, Galen Silvia of Island Park and Aaron Silvia of Westport; grandchildren, Raleigh Silvia of Little Compton, Aiden Silvia of Little Compton and Gabriel Munoz of Little Compton; siblings Robert Thornsbury of Tiverton, Ronnie Thornsbury of Tiverton, and Jackie Thornsbury of Little Compton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Iaeger, WV, to the late Lawrence and Mary (Collins) Thornsbury, she moved with her family to Tiverton in 1961 and entered Josephine Fields High School where she graduated in 1964. She married John in 1966 and two years later began devoting herself to raising her sons and any other stray children that came her way.

Later in life, she worked at Rhode Island Hospital Trust, Bank of America and St. Anne’s Credit Union. Her final employment outside the home was teaching arts and crafts to children at the Little Compton After School Club.

In her leisure time she enjoyed arts and crafts, successfully displaying her artwork at the annual Spring Bull Gallery Fakes and Forgeries show, golfing, gardening, performing music with her husband and friends and traveling. Most of all though, she enjoyed sharing whatever she had, including her bright smile and upbeat attitude, with others. She was someone who could make something out of nothing and art out of anything.

We mourn but are grateful for the time she was with us. Her passing was peaceful and beautiful to behold. Farewell and a safe journey home.

Wake — Friday, July 14, 4-7 p.m. at Fern Acres Funeral Home,72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton, Donations to the Little Compton After School Club in lieu of flowers.
