David G. Finlaw, 96, of Barrington, passed away at Hallworth House in Providence on Saturday, Dec. 30 2017. A Barrington resident for 60 years, David was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Finlaw and father of James E. Finlaw (Kathleen) of Fairfield, Conn., and Joanne F Duval (Kenneth) of Barrington. He is also survived by his six granddaughters: Sarah, Rachel, and Jamie Grace Finlaw; and Hayley, Madeline, and Hannah Duval. He was born in Hancock’s Bridge, NJ, the son of the late Morris and Mabel Finlaw and was the last surviving sibling of six brothers and sisters.
David served in the U.S. Army in North Africa, Italy and France during World War II, as a Technical Sergeant, G-2 Intelligence. He received a BA from Barrington College and a Master of Education degree from RI College. After many years as a professor at Barrington College, David then went on to be a reading specialist for the Warren School System, retiring in 1986.
An active member of Barrington Baptist Church, David held various leadership positions and served
in many capacities over the years, particularly in Christian Education. He was on the board of directors of the Barrington Christian Academy, Singing Hills Christian Fellowship, Monadnock Bible Conference, Child Evangelism of RI, and the Barrington College Alumni Board.
David’s life reflected his faithfulness to his Lord, Jesus Christ. His gifts were to teach and to serve others and he honored God in all he did. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
