David Preston Foster, formerly of Barrington

David Preston Foster died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. He was born June 16, 1934 in West Medford, Mass., son of Francis Budlong Foster and Evelyn Phillips Foster. 

David is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Glennroy Webber Foster. He leaves 3 sons in Rhode Island, David P. Foster, Jr. (wife Donna), Phillip D. Foster (wife Jennifer), and James S. Foster (wife Ann); 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his brother B. Phillips Foster of Harwich, Mass., and his sister Natalie Giles of Bluffton, S.C. He was pre-deceased by his sister Patricia McCully of Barrington. 

David graduated from East Greenwich High School and University of Rhode Island, where he was a member of Rho Iota Kappa Fraternity. He worked in the copper and brass industry for 40 years employed by Bridgeport Brass Co. of Bridgeport, Conn., United Wire & Supply Co. of Cranston, and Olin Corp. of Clayton, Mo. 

David was an avid golfer and a former member of Rhode Island Country Club and Cranberry Valley Golf Course, Harwich, Mass. 

Longtime residents of Barrington, David and Glenn retired in 1998 to Venice, Fla. and their summer home in Harwich Port, Mass., where they enjoyed many friends and family. 

David served his country in the US Army in Korea with the 17th Field Artillery Battalion. 

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington on Saturday, June 23, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota FL 34238.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
