It wasn’t a blue wave, but Warren elected a new town council Tuesday comprised of three Democrats and two Independents.
Warren Town Council rpesidedent Joseph DePasquale earned the most votes at 2,254, with incumbent Democrat Keri Cronin, the council’s vice president, coming in second place with 2,091. They and Independent Steven P. Calenda, an Independent, earned four-year terms on the council while the fourth and fifth place finishers, Independent John Hanley and Democrat Brandt Heckert will serve for two years. Candidates June Speakman, Keith Phillis and Barry Lial finished out of the money.
Watching the numbers come in at an election party at Federal Hill Pizza, Ms. Cronin said she was overjoyed at retaining her seat on the council. She wasn’t always sure what was going to happen, she said:
“It surprises me to a certain extent,” she said. “But if in my heart I believe in the job that I think that I’ve done and the connections that I’ve made, then I’m notarially surprised. Because I felt like all of that effort that I put in was absolutely sincere and valid. I’m really proud and I’m really happy, and I’m honored that there’s a whole new team to work with for the next four years.”
