Eagles advance in Division II softball playoffs

Barrington knocks off Rogers in opener

Paige Concannon pitched a one-hitter and struck out 14 while leading the Barrington High School softball team to a 2-0 victory over Rogers in the first round of the Division II playoffs last week.

In addition to pitching well, Concannon also paced the Eagles' offense — she knocked in the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lauren Grove also drove in a run with a single in the sixth inning. Barrington finished the game with eight hits.

In a second round showdown with North Smithfield, Barrington fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but battled back with a run in the fifth and the go-ahead score in the seventh.

Rachel Cross led off the seventh with a single and Grove hit a double, scoring Cross. Concannon was again a standout for Barrington's defense. She pitched a complete game, striking out six and limiting 16-1 North Smithfield to five hits.

Barrington was scheduled to play Mt. St. Charles on Monday night, but the game was moved to Friday because of the weather.
