The Barrington High School boys basketball team rallied for comeback wins against Narragansett and North Kingstown last week.

On Friday night, Jan. 12, the Eagles trailed North Kingstown by seven points at halftime, but outscored the Skippers 36 to 13 in the second half and notched a 69-53 win.

Host North Kingstown knocked down 10 three-pointers in the first half. The Skippers led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter. But the second half was all Barrington, as the Eagles held their opponents to just six points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.

The Eagles made a key run to take the lead in the third quarter. Trailing 40-33, the Eagles’ Quinn Murphy stole the ball and passed to Nick Scandura for a layup, cutting the lead to 40-35. Scandura followed that up with two free throws, and when Matt Raffa found Evan Anderson for a basket the Eagles had cut the lead to 40-39. Raffa then drilled a long three-pointer that gave Barrington a 42-40 advantage. Raffa then stole the ball and drove for a layup. When Scandura scored off an inbounds play, Barrington had built a 46-40 lead and never looked back.

Barrington Coach Mike Raffa said Anderson played a phenomenal game and finished with a career-high 19 points. Scandura led the team with 24 points, including 15 in the second half. Raffa kept Barrington within reach in the first half — he scored 13 of his 18 points in the first 16 minutes of play.

Ryan Rigamonti also played well and finished with six points. Owen Pfeffer was steady at the point and rounded out the scoring with two points, while Colin McDermott also played valuable minutes.

Earlier in the week, Barrington overcame a four-point deficit in the fourth quarter and powered to a 56-46 win over Narragansett.

Barrington trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, 22-20 at halftime, and 39-35 after the third quarter.

It was a one-point game with less than three minutes remaining. That was when Raffa drove for a left-handed layup and Scandura followed that with a lay-up and a foul. Barrington went on to outscore the Mariners 11-1 over the last 6:46 of the game.

Raffa and Scandura led the offense, finishing with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Anderson added six points, Pfeffer had three and Murphy rounded out the scoring with two points. The Eagles shot 13 for 14 from the free throw line.

Barrington is 11-0 overall and 7-0 in Division I.

The Eagles were scheduled to play at Classical on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
