The Barrington High School boys basketball team extended its home winning streak to 19 games after defeating Mount Pleasant 68-35 on Friday night, Feb. 9.

The Eagles improved to 19-1 overall and 15-1 in Division I.

The Eagles, playing on Senior Night, actually trailed at the start of the game. Barrington was down 10-5, but scored the last 12 points of the period, including a buzzer-beater by Evan Anderson.

Nick Scandura led all Barrington scorers with 16 points, while Owen Pfeffer dropped in 11 and had five assists. Matt Leonard knocked down a three-pointer and finished the game with nine points, and Jake Ignall hit a three and finished with seven points. Anderson had six points for game, while Colin McDermott and Caleb Satisfield each scored five. Satisfield also ignited the home crowd when he threw down a slam dunk.

Ryan Rigamonti chipped in with four points, Ryan Really knocked down a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter and Alex Anderson rounded out the scoring with two points.

Eagles defeat Smithfield

Barrington held a teacher appreciation night before tipping off against Smithfield last week.

“Tonight was an important and meaningful night, as we recognized some of the many teachers and administrators who play an important role in our children's lives,” BHS Coach Mike Raffa wrote in a message the Barrington Times. “I have many family members including my wife Meghan Raffa that give so much to motivate, educate and inspire our future leaders. It was wonderful to see each student athlete connect with the educator they chose to recognize as they met on the floor before our game this evening.”

Barrington jumped out to a 23-7 lead over the Sentinels and withstood a few runs from the visitors before defeating Smithfield 70-53.

Scandura led the way with 21 points.  McDermott and Satisfield played important minutes off of the bench.   McDermott finished with 19 points, including four made three-pointers. Satisfield knocked down a three as well and finished with eight points. Quinn Murphy hit two three-pointers in the second half for his six points. Matt Raffa and Pfeffer added four points each. Anderson scored three points. Ignall and Leonard chipped in with two points a piece. Rigamonti rounded out the scoring with one.

Eagles top Clippers

Barrington went on the road, jumped out to leads of 20-8 after the first quarter and 33-21 at halftime, before coming away with a 59-42 victory over a talented Cumberland team.

“It was one of the best and most complete performances the Eagles have had this year,” said Coach Raffa.

The visitors had balanced scoring with four players reaching double figures led by Raffa's 18. Anderson scored eight of his 14 points in the opening eight minutes. Pfeffer was able to get everyone involved, scored 12 points and knocked down two three-pointers.

Scandura finished with 11 points and joined the 1,000 points club after making a free throw in the third quarter. McDermott played quality minutes and added four points.
